Bitcoin was range-bound this week, but calling this stretch quiet would miss everything that happened underneath. A $1.17 billion third-quarter hack tally landed alongside a fresh Ledger investigation. Vitalik Buterin publicly entertained a "bunker mode" rethink of Ethereum's cryptography against future AI threats. OKX outlined plans to put US stocks on-chain around the clock. And somewhere in the middle of all this, BTC kept running into resistance.
A Security Reckoning the Industry Keeps Postponing
Finbold's Q3 tally, more than $1.17 billion stolen in crypto hacks, hit the same week Ledger was reported to be investigating a theft of more than $86 million tied to CryptoBillis buyers. CoinDesk marked the one-year anniversary of a major industry wake-up call by asking the uncomfortable question of whether anyone has actually learned anything. The Q3 numbers make that question hard to dismiss.
Buterin also added to the conversation. As Decrypt reported, Buterin weighed in on whether AI could eventually crack today's encryption.

Wall Street Inches Further Onto the Chain
Even as hacks dominated the security conversation, the institutional pipeline kept building. OKX filed with the SEC to launch a tokenized US stock trading platform, Bloomberg reported, and Decrypt detailed a parallel plan with ICE for 24/7 tokenized stock trading under an SEC exemption. Cointelegraph flagged that the Winklevoss-backed Zcash ETF has filed for a Nasdaq listing, adding another altcoin wrapper to the queue. And the CFTC floated proposals aimed at drawing a cleaner line between prediction markets and casino-style gambling.
Michael Saylor's Strategy, true to form, bought another 334 BTC for $28.7 million, pushing total holdings past 848,000 BTC, as The Block reported. Less inspiring: Cointelegraph noted that Bitcoin and Ether ETF outflows for October are now approaching $1 billion combined.
Macro Pressure, and Some Very Large Wallets
The macro picture gave bulls little to work with. Pluang clocked a 3.8% market drop tied to renewed Fed rate hike concerns, pre-FOMC-minutes jitters weighed on the market, and Coindoo tied a 1.8% Bitcoin dip to Iran risk pushing oil above $100. Investing.com's dispatch from the USS George Washington was a sober reminder of what sits behind those oil levels.
Whales, meanwhile, kept reshuffling. Sizable BTC and ETH flows rounded out the ledger.
With Bitcoin range-bound and tokenized equities inching closer to launch, the coming weeks bear watching.
