Bitcoin spent the week wedged between two forces that rarely align: a hot August jobs report that revived Fed hike bets, and a Middle East story that refused to leave the front page. Prices held near $80,000, essentially flat, while Ether ticked up near $2,500. That surface calm belied a week in which global bond yields climbed to their highest level in two decades, oil pushed above $92 and later flirted with $96, and Seoul's benchmark fell 4 percent in a single session. And yet, Bitcoin ETFs took in $3.8 billion over three weeks, the strongest such stretch of 2026.

Jobs, Yields, and a Strange New Macro

The August payrolls print was the week's economic pivot. As CryptoSlate and Investing.com both noted, the report shifted Fed policy expectations toward another hike, sending Wall Street lower and dragging Bitcoin briefly below $80,000. CoinGape flagged that JPMorgan is looking past jobs to CPI as the real decision point. Layer on Crypto Briefing's read on bond volatility (traders bracing for a rougher US yield curve) and CryptoSlate's framing of a Fed tightening while Treasury issuance floods the other direction, and you get the strange macro Bitcoin is now navigating. Not helping the mood: America's information sector shed 23,000 jobs in August, its weakest tally since 2015.

Bitcoin held near $80,000 while global bond yields hit their highest level in two decades. That is not a normal backdrop.

The Strait of Hormuz Takes Over

The geopolitical thread hardened fast. US forces disabled three Iranian-linked tankers after reported IRGC missile attacks on Navy warships, and Iran responded by striking a US naval drone near Hormuz. Tehran also moved to declare a restricted zone outside the strait, threatening sanctions on vessels that ignore it. TASS noted roughly 20 million barrels of oil transit Hormuz daily, which explains why crude jumped after a US strike on Iran's Larak island and why OPEC's decision to keep output quotas unchanged mattered. London's FTSE 100 slid, Seoul tumbled, and gold analysts told Business Standard that inflation data and the Iran crisis would together steer bullion. Other countries, per TASS, are joining the US to secure navigation through the strait.

Crypto's Own Beat Kept Moving

Away from the macro noise, Standard Chartered brought spot crypto trading to its Dubai FX platform, a quiet but meaningful bit of institutional plumbing. Altcoin open interest widened, with Crypto Briefing flagging momentum in ZEC, BNB, ARB, XRP and SOL. ZEC in particular pushed into the top ten as shorts got punished on the move. Uniswap V4 has captured 31 percent of all-chain tokenized-stock liquidity, a data point worth watching as tokenized equities find their footing. And Nvidia's $20 billion Groq bet is going live this year, feeding the AI and data narrative that market sentiment trackers are currently ranking as the top sector.

Whales Rewired Quietly

Whale flows leaned toward internal reshuffling rather than exits. The week's headline move was a $445 million WBTC wallet-to-wallet transfer, followed by a $319 million BTC transfer between wallets. Ether saw a $37 million internal move, with smaller flows in XRP ($11M), LINK ($8M), and a $4 million SOL inflow to Binance, the only meaningful exchange-facing move in the set. Custody plumbing, not distribution.

Next week's calendar centers on US CPI and Oracle earnings, with Hormuz likely to keep interrupting the script.
