A Week Where Geopolitics Wrote the Crypto Script

Crypto rarely moves in a vacuum, and this week made the point in capital letters. Between Washington's escalating tone on Iran, a renewed brawl over the CLARITY Act on Capitol Hill, and a fresh cross-chain exploit, traders had plenty to chew on even as Bitcoin barely budged at $73,832 (up 0.5%) and Ether held at $2,022 (up 0.4%). Sentiment across the board read bearish, with Echo Launchpad the lone sector drawing real heat.

The geopolitical backdrop hung over everything. NDTV Profit reported the US is prepared to restart strikes on Iran absent a deal, while Investing.com noted the military fired a Hellfire missile into the engine room of a blockade runner attempting to reach an Iranian port. Bitcoinist flagged a Treasury announcement that roughly $1 billion in Iranian crypto has been seized by US authorities. Investing.com asked the obvious question on everyone's mind: whether ceasefires in Iran and Ukraine would be enough to actually steady markets.

The CLARITY Fight Heats Up

Domestically, the crypto policy story of the week was the widening rift over the CLARITY Act. Bitcoinist reported that JPMorgan's chief executive is doubling down on his opposition, putting big banks squarely against the bill. Senator Cynthia Lummis countered hard, telling Cointelegraph that if CLARITY fails, China will end up writing the rules of the next financial era, and warning via Crypto.news that the entire US crypto framework faces a 2030 risk if the legislation stalls.

Layer in Investing.com's primer on incoming Fed Chair Kevin Warsh and the question of whether he leans hawk or dove, plus a US jobs report Crypto Briefing expects to show solid growth, and the macro setup for digital assets feels more politically charged than it has in months.

If CLARITY stalls, the argument goes, the rulebook gets written somewhere else.

Security Wobble and Token Action

The week's reminder that infrastructure risk hasn't gone anywhere came from Crypto.news, which reported that Gravity Bridge halted operations after a $5.4 million drain on the Ethereum-Cosmos link. It's a modest sum by exploit standards, but a fresh hit to a critical cross-chain artery.

In token-specific coverage, AMBCrypto asked whether Bitcoin's shifting volatility profile is finally bringing it closer to gold in Wall Street's eyes, even as another AMBCrypto piece noted that 40% of Bitcoin holders are now underwater, raising uncomfortable comparisons to 2022. NewsBTC tracked a tightening correlation between XRP and XLM that some are reading as a recovery signal. Analysts warned that an ETH slide below a key threshold could trigger substantial long liquidations on centralized exchanges. The Motley Fool, via Google News, made the long-horizon case for Ethereum. XDC, per AMBCrypto, bounced off support with eyes on $0.037.

Whales and the Wider World

Whale flows were dominated by a single $462 million WBTC wallet-to-wallet transfer, followed by a $219 million BTC move between wallets and a $31 million ZEC shuffle. Smaller ETH and XRP transfers rounded out the tape, with the only real exchange activity a $1 million ETH outflow from OKX.

Beyond crypto, Crypto Briefing flagged SpaceX targeting a $1.8 trillion valuation for a 2026 IPO and a San Francisco home selling for $2.9 million in OpenAI and Anthropic stock, while SoftBank pledged up to €75 billion for French AI data centers.

Next week, Washington, Tehran, and the CLARITY whip count will likely keep dictating terms.
